DHT plays a critical role in muscular function—arguably more important than testosterone.

As we age, muscle DHT and DHEA drop faster than testosterone.

And with that decline comes:

Lower insulin sensitivity
Loss of explosive power
Decreased strength & slower recovery
Reduced agility and quickness

We might still be strong—maybe even outlifting the younger guys in the gym.

But keeping up with them on the field, sprinting or reacting explosively?
That’s where we start to fall behind.

In my opinion, muscle DHT is more critical for functional strength and ability than testosterone.

Because that’s the first thing that starts to go with age—not raw strength, but sharpness and speed.

And I’m not just chasing gym PRs.
My goals go beyond that:

My Definition of a Functional Male

Outside strength – The ability to lift and move heavy weight (military press, deadlift, etc.)
Inside strength – Control over your own body (pullups, dips, L-sit, front lever, etc.)
Power – Explosive ability (clapping pushups, jumping, etc.)
Speed – Sprinting, punching, reacting fast
Recovery – The ability to do it all over again—consistently

That’s what I train for—year in and year out.

And I’m not going to let age—or low DHT—steal that from me.

I’m 32—But I’ve Already Felt the Decline

I’ve gone through it:

Frequent injuries
Taking forever to heal
Weak joints (most movements hurt)
Losing all the muscle I built in my early 20s
Losing my strength
My fast metabolism slowing to a crawl
Getting skinny fat
Gaining weight and struggling to lose it
Losing my athletic edge

I remember the day my wife recorded me sprinting after a long break…
I was going all-out—and it looked like a jog.
I was so embarrassed I wanted to bury my head in the sand.

But those challenges taught me a lot.

And optimizing my testosterone and DHT helped me not just regain what I lost, but shatter my old bests.

Now, whenever I take on a new movement or skill, I progress insanely fast.
It feels like beginner gains—but at an advanced level.
