What I changed my mind on

Herbal antibiotics. In the past, I got excited when I saw something that had antibacterial and antifungal effects. I'd also nilly willy try out a bunch to see what happened. The reason for my interest in natural antibiotics is because about 6 years ago I developed a starch sensitivity which resulted in dandruff and blurry vision. I knew it was gut-related because using things like activated charcoal, spore-based probiotics and cardamom improved those symptoms.

However, recently, I experimented with oregano oil from NOW brand, using 3 caps per day and that messed up my gut. I started getting loose stool (not diarrhea) and my gut was just off. Then I used Lamaria (a specific sweet wormwood extract) and that made me pee out of my ass 16 times a day for a whole week even after stopping. Horrible experience. I felt nauseous, weak, low motivation, fatigued and so on all the time. I was able to snap myself out of that state with saccharomyces boulardii. But since then I'd get toothache when I ate rice and my ankles would swell when I ate starches in general for too long.

The right way to go about this is to do a stool test, see what's high and low and then use a very specific natural antibiotic to kill that specific bacteria/fungus.

When testosterone doesn't work

Who here thinks that testosterone (the injection) is the magic bullet? Get on some T and turn in Arnold Schwarzenegger, increase penile length by 3 inches, grow a beard to your belly button, get washboard abs that your spouse/partner wants to wash her panties on and so on.

Sadly that's not the reality. In fact, a lot of men are testosterone non-responders. In fact, testosterone does close to nothing. Perhaps a mild mood boost (placebo?) and that's about it.

That's because low testosterone isn't the root cause of your issues. I've told so many men that it won't help much to be on T. But they don't believe me, then hop on some T, and viola, no Shangri-La, magic rainbows or unicorns and no Arnold Schwarzenegger. Life remains the same.

The root cause is fixed by maximizing your diet and minimizing oxidative stress and DHT levels. Many of the effects of testosterone are DHT-dependent. Block 5AR and you lose many of those benefits. Some of the benefits of DHT include improved insulin sensitivity, stronger erections, greater semen volume, dopamine release (mood), anti-anxiety (GABA activation), anti-inflammatory and so on.

5-alpha reductase: the most important enzyme

Most of us know about the importance of DHT, but don't understand the importance of 5AR.

5AR doesn't just create DHT, but also creates allopregnanolone (anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, memory enhancement, pro-sleep, anti-stress, among others.) and deactivates cortisol and aldosterone.

Inhibiting 5AR will reduce your strongest androgen (DHT) and neurosteroids (think more stress, anxiety, insomnia, etc.) and increase cortisol (think belly fat, insulin resistance, heightened stress, poor sleep, etc.).

Some people might get away with it for a while because 5AR isn't lowered that much and they might have higher testosterone initially. But as testosterone drops and 5AR becomes more sensitive to inhibition, the more likely side effects are to show up.

Don't nilly willy inhibit 5AR.
